Solid advice
KiwiSaver is one of the most significant investments most New Zealanders will make. Yet, for something almost every working Kiwi has, it remains surprisingly misunderstood.
That’s exactly what Christchurch KiwiSaver financial adviser Cameron Steele is hoping to change.
Through his business, Solid Steele KiwiSaver Advice, Cameron has made it his mission to help everyday New Zealanders better understand how their money can work for them. Whether it’s first-home buyers, young families, the self-employed, or those approaching retirement, his advice is simple, independent, free, and delivered in plain English.
“The journey for me started around 2009 when I was living in Australia,” Cameron says. “Everyone talked about their superannuation. It was a normal conversation to have. When I came back to New Zealand, KiwiSaver had started, but nobody seemed interested. People would say, ‘You can’t use it until you retire,’ and that was the end of the conversation.”
“Nobody went to the pub and talked about investing. I kept thinking, surely I can help with that.”
After studying economics and becoming a long-time investor himself, Cameron completed the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) before spending several years educating clients while contracting to one of the country’s fastest-growing KiwiSaver providers. In 2022, he established Solid Steele KiwiSaver Advice, allowing him to focus entirely on helping Kiwis make informed decisions about their financial future.
While many expect conversations about KiwiSaver to revolve around numbers and investment returns, Cameron says they’re often about something far more personal.
“I love talking to people, and I’m passionate about it. Most of the conversation isn’t actually about finances. It’s about behaviour and understanding how money can work for you over the long term.”
Keeping jargon to a minimum, Cameron meets people wherever they feel most comfortable, whether that’s at home, over a coffee, or even at the local pub.
Since launching the business, Cameron has helped more than 1,300 New Zealanders better understand their KiwiSaver. In 2025, he was recognised as a Financial Advice New Zealand Trusted Adviser, a reflection of both his expertise and his belief that good financial advice should be accessible to everyone, no matter their background.
