Lending a listening ear
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people will ever make. Nathan Miglani believes great mortgage advice isn’t just about securing a loan; it’s about helping people make confident decisions that will benefit them for years to come.
As Managing Adviser for Squirrel’s South Island business, he leads specialist teams supporting first-home buyers, self-employed clients, and property investors, with every client getting a plan built around where they are now, and where they want to be.
“We understand what works for people today, but also what will work for them in the future,” he says. “Relationships are everything.” That philosophy has helped Nathan become the South Island’s number one mortgage adviser for the past 7 years, and one of the top five in New Zealand. Success, he believes, comes down to listening.
“When it comes to money and finances, it’s not a joke. We put ourselves in our clients’ shoes and ask, ‘What would I do if it were me?’”
Around 30 per cent of the loans Nathan and his team settle each year go to first-home buyers. Dedicated teams also specialise in areas such as construction lending and self-employed borrowers, ensuring clients work with advisers who understand their unique circumstances.
Joining Squirrel marked another step forward. Alongside brokering loans, the business is also able to lend its own funds, meaning Nathan can offer clients faster approvals and more creative solutions when a situation doesn’t fit a standard lending box.
“Having the ability to lend our own funds and provide creative, quick solutions is what excites me every day,” he says.
Looking ahead, Nathan’s ambition is clear: to become the go-to household name for mortgages in the South Island, without ever losing the personal service that got him here.
“At the end of the day, we’re here to help people build financial security and make confident decisions for their future.”
