The buskers are back
Get amongst the fun this summer as the World Buskers Festival returns to Ōtautahi Christchurch for ten days of street performance, ticketed shows, and pop-up surprises. From Friday 23 January to Sunday 1 February 2026, the streets come alive with laughter, spectacle, and the kind of unexpected moments that make this one of our most-loved festivals.
Among the headline acts is Cirque Bon Bon, which promises a dazzling mix of athleticism, artistry, and humour in a cabaret-circus experience that’s as glamorous as it is daring. This high-energy production transforms the stage into a world of glittering acrobatics, dance, comedy, and sass – a feast for the senses and one of the hottest tickets of the festival.
Adding to the stellar show lineup, The Bitches’ Box brings its hit rural comedy to the stage. Created by Amelia Dunbar and Emma Newborn, this Kiwi favourite is a sharp-witted celebration of life on the land told through the eyes of two working dogs with plenty to say.
For those who like their nights a little later, the Late Night Cabaret joins the line up, unapologetic, unscripted, and uncensored. Expect world-class circus, buskers burlesque, and a lineup that pushes every boundary.
This year’s international buskers include Mario Queen of the Circus (USA) – the Latin lothario of circus and comedy whose killer Queen anthems, slick juggling, and rock’n’roll swagger have wowed audiences in over 26 countries. From Canada, the dazzling aerial duo The Silver Starlets bring vintage circus glamour and cheeky comedy to the skies, while Japan’s to R mansion deliver a whirlwind of mime, dance, and magic – a spectacular world of flying chairs, dancing umbrellas, and pure imagination.
Don’t miss Busker Jams, the nightly variety show where performers cut loose and take audiences on a wild, one-of-a-kind ride. Bring your mates, grab a drink, and settle in for big festival energy.
Another highlight is The World Buskers Festival Gala, a spectacular showcase at the iconic Isaac Theatre Royal. Featuring top international and local acts performing back-to-back before more than 1,200 fans, it’s high-energy, unpredictable, and the ultimate celebration of Buskers at their best.
The festival grows this year with the addition of the Rollickin Gelato on Cashel pitch, adding a burst of colour and energy to the city. Created in partnership with Rollickin Gelato, it brings an extra scoop of fun to the streets while celebrating the opening of their new Riccarton store.
Across five city pitches and two pop-up locations, the festival blends the best of international street talent with the creativity and spirit of homegrown performers. Expect jaw-dropping acrobatics, cheeky comedy, world-class circus acts, and unforgettable moments in every corner of the city.
Keep an eye out for urban pop-up pitches, with surprise performances of dance, circus, and comedy in unexpected city spots. More updates are expected, so keep an eye out to find out what’s popping up where.
This year also features Pae Tākaro: Eight Days of Play, a collaboration with Gap Filler exploring the art of play. From Directors and Storytellers to Collectors and Jokers, there’s something for every play personality – inviting everyone to rediscover creativity, curiosity, and joy in the heart of the city.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or a first-time visitor, the World Buskers Festival is the perfect excuse to gather your crew, hit the streets, and experience Christchurch at its most playful. Grab a ticketed show, catch a few acts between coffee stops, or settle in at an outdoor pitch and join the fun.
