 COLOUR AND COUNTRY

Inspired by a quote from Gertrude Jekyll that “a garden should curtsy to the house”, Barewood, in the spectacular Awatere Valley, is a constantly-evolving artwork of inspired plant and colour combinations. Recognised as a six-star Garden of International Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust, this large, semi-formal country garden roams across four acres, perfectly framing the 100-year-old homestead in the heart of Barewood.

HERALDING HERITAGE

Built by passionate aviation enthusiasts and located close to Blenheim’s city centre, Omaka’s museum of aviation shares the stories of the men and women behind the machines. Experience Sir Peter Jackson’s collection of World War 1 artefacts to a range of aircraft from World War Two. Dangerous Skies and Knights of the Sky are the creative wonderments of WingNut Films and Wētā Workshop. Psst: the museum shop makes fantastic coffee!

 GET YOUR CAMP ON

Now is the perfect time to resurrect the ol’ camping gear and soak up some of Marlborough’s ideal summer climate with the family. There are options for all, whether you are equipped with a campervan or tent. The region’s facilities range from DOC campsites to holiday parks – Queen Charlotte Track is a must-visit; The Gibbons family run Wilderness Guides and are the first port of call when experiencing the coastal track.

AUTHENTIC FOOD

Harvest is a celebration of authentic Marlborough hospitality. There are multiple dining rooms, an expansive garden deck, and even dappled shade in the garden for vino in the sun. Make sure you experience the Mibrasa Charcoal oven – often used in Michelin star restaurants; this gives another dimension to the language of gastronomy. Head chef Toby Stewart ensures seasonal, local produce is used, as well as sustainable practices are used where possible. Our recommendation is the ViaVio A2 Burrata.
