Day trippin' in Fiji

It’s no secret that Cantabrians are lining up to luxuriate in the radiance of Fiji’s sun and sand. The best remedy for beating the winter chill is to leave it behind completely! If you’re planning your own tropical escape, make sure you add in a little adventure amongst your wining, dining, and sunning. Fiji is home to many a day trip, so make the most of your island time and experience a side of Fiji you may never have considered possible.

 GET DIRTY

Do you fancy a trip through Fiji’s lush interior and remote forests, while getting a look into the locals enriching culture? Go Dirty takes you through it all, including natural landmarks, palm-fringed beach fronts, and stunning waterfalls, and if you want to get extra dirty, you can stop for a dip in the natural hot springs. If you’re looking for something a bit more laid back, you can hire out a scooter and do it at your own pace. Go on, get dirty.

INTREPID RIDE

Get your heart pumping and take a thrilling, intrepid ride through Upper Navua River with Rivers Fiji. Day trip through Fiji’s inland wonders of rainforest scenery with a waterfall around almost every corner – all the while riding the mighty whitewater! If you want something more on the slower pace side, you can opt for a calm kayak in the middle of the Navua River.

LAND ON PARADISE

Seventh Heaven is the hottest new day trip in the Mamanuca Islands. The two-level floating platform has a fully stocked bar, the freshest ingredient restaurant and sun loungers to sit back with a beautiful cocktail or ice-cold beer. Strap on a snorkel and adventure into the ocean, as the platform has some of the world’s most stunning reefs to discover. With local and international beats and a short boat ride from Port Denarau, this is ‘Fiji time’ at its absolute best.

A POPULAR PEAK

While it’s possible to explore caves, jungles, rock pools, and beaches on Drawaga island, in the Yasawa Islands, one of the most popular walks is to the top of a peak. The hour-and-a-half round trip is a well-formed trail and easy enough to follow, taking you slowly uphill to exposed grasslands offering tremendous views of the beach and the surrounding islands.

THE HEART OF THE YASAWAS

Sawa-i-Lau’s secret attraction is two caverns with seawater pools fed by the tides. Daylight floods the first, larger cave – a pleasant swim but surprisingly cooler than outside the cave. You’ll need a guide (and a bit of courage) to lead you through the secretive underwater entrance to the second, smaller cavern. According to the guides, it’s only when you’ve entered this dark, inner sanctum that you’ve visited the true ‘heart of the Yasawas’.

FEELING HOT, HOT, HOT!

Immerse yourself in Fiji tradition (quite literally!) with a soak in the Sabeto Hot Springs. Located in the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, these three therapeutic mud pools are managed by a local village and go from lukewarm up to a very warm 60 degrees Celsius. After a guided tour, guests can coat themselves in mud, dry off in the sun, and then hop in and out of the mud bath before washing off in the clear water.

COMMUNITY-BASED TOURISM

Sigatoka River Safari is a half-day adventure cruising your way up the majestic Sigatoka River to visit authentic Fijian villages and experience a day in the life of the real ‘kaiviti’ (Fijian). Your guide introduces you to the rich culture of the people, history, customs, and legends of the area, enabling guests to interact and engage with the Fijian people as they truly are. This is true community-based tourism – part of your ticket price goes directly back to the village.

ZIP IT!

Zip Fiji’s newest zipline is an unprecedented adventure of 5km of ziplines woven into a truly spectacular wilderness setting of caves, canyons, and mountaintops. These 16 giant zip lines offer jaw-dropping speeds and breathtaking ocean views with the added adventure of limestone cave exploration. You’ll experience three different ecosystems. The platforms have unique and stunning views. At the top, you get a 360-degree view, and 270 degrees of that is ocean!
